I Felt the Sun Today
Brisk wind arrives outside my window
Each gust plucks another leaf from the familiar
Put away what is gone;
Prepare for the new
The chill of winter stretches on.
But I felt the sun today
Its quiet filled the room of my children playing,
And its chorus rang from the mouths of saints beside.
Its hello beamed across a table of new faces
And its warmth whispered relief to my broken frame.
I heard it in I’m sorry.
I received it in a hug.
I felt the sun today
And I chased my kids beneath its rays.
Bare branches giggled at their gift
And I realized that it had never really left.
